‘2 graces’ moss reindeer by Julia Adzuki with the building site in the background

A R T I S T S in R E S O N A N C E is situated off-grid in the Swedish forest near Järna. Home to artists Julia Adzuki (author), Patrick Dallard and family, and the building site of Artists in Resonance - a place for somatic, sonic, ecological and relational art to grow and to nourish the wild – the wild of the forest, of the earth, of hearts and imaginations.

These letters are an invitation – a call to artists, thinkers, writers, ecologists, ecopsychologists and spiritual ecologists to be part of the Artist in Resonance community. When building is completed we plan to host residencies, seminars, collaborative projects and workshops – and we hope some of you will have the opportunity to join us in the flesh. This writing gives a glimpse into our off-grid life in the forest and building process with Artists in Resonance. Interwoven with reflections from 25+ years of artistic practice and occasional flights of somatic poetry.

Since mid-winter 2023 we have been living on-site in a yurt and treehouse, dreaming with this forest, with the moose and spruce, the birch and lynx, the pine and moss. Seeding the imaginarium of Artists in Resonance. We've been learning the ins and outs of off-grid living in a cold climate through trial and error, meeting the challenges of low/no budget building and testing the pith of our relationships - an initiation by fire that is as inspiring as it is challenging.

Originally from Australia and France, Julia and Patrick met in the Swedish arctic while working as sculptors at Icehotel. Julia's background is in visual art and performance, especially the ephemeral and transformative kind. A teacher of somatic movement Skinner Releasing Technique, she holds and MA in Choreography / New Performative Practices from Stockholm University of the Arts. Patrick has a background in set design for theatre and film, mechanical engineering and jewellery making. He is a Deep Listening practitioner and teacher, trained through Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY.

In 2009 we founded SymbioLab, a mobile laboratory for relational art, ecology and listening. Touring schools, festivals and art spaces, making public artworks and tactile sound instruments, inviting embodied art experiences and a playful approach to ecology. In 2018 we co-founded Ljudtornet, a platform for experimental sound, art and music with an annual ANTENN festival based in the old water tower in Gnesta. Artists in Resonance is the fusion of these themes and dreams with roots in this particular forest.
